Posted Ride Rules: Your Questions
1.How far is Springfield Township from your warehouse?
Our Norton warehouse is a short drive across Akron, so morning setups are easy to schedule. Summer weekends book up first.
2.How tall is the Wet and Wild water slide?
It stands 21 feet high with a 43-foot sliding lane, recommended for ages 5 and up. Use city water, since well water can stain the vinyl.
3.How many guests fit under the 20 x 20 pole tent?
It seats up to about 40 people. Plan on a 30 x 30 foot grassy or dirt area, because pole tents are staked into the ground.
4.Is the shooting gallery safe for kids?
Yes. It uses soft foam darts, works for all skill levels and keeps lines moving with quick rounds.
5.Does Giant Party Pong use any drinks?
No. Players toss volleyballs into oversized red cans, so there is nothing to spill. The setup runs about 20 feet long.
6.Can we book the Field Day Frenzy for a school?
Yes, this package is reserved for schools. It bundles a 60-foot obstacle course, Hippo Chow Down, the Vertical Rush slide and a snow cone machine for a six-hour field day.
Lakemore
A Township With a Hole in the Middle
The donut shape
According to the township's facts page, Springfield was laid out in 1806 as a 25-square-mile square. Annexations and the incorporation of Lakemore and Mogadore whittled it down to about 14.7 square miles, which is why the borders look so jagged on a map. The Village of Lakemore, about 1.5 square miles, sits entirely inside the township, like the hole in a donut. A 1994 joint economic agreement with Akron included a promise of no further annexation.
No hometown postmark
Springfield Township has no post office of its own. Even the township hall uses an Akron mailing address, and residents' mail carries the names of nearby post offices instead.
The lost lakeside park
The township history describes Springfield Lake Park, built in the early 1900s, with a merry-go-round, dodge-em cars and a roller coaster that reached out over the lake. Big bands played its dance hall, and interurban cars brought picnic crowds. Accounts differ on why it closed, with the Depression among the reasons given. The lake itself is a natural kettle lake left behind by a glacier.
